Need help with Jewelify: Jewelry Identification & Valuation? We're here for you.
How does Jewelify identify jewelry?
You photograph a piece; Jewelify sends the photo through our Cloudflare Workers proxy to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash, which analyses it against millions of catalogued pieces, current auction data, and known maker marks. In parallel, the same photo is sent to eBay's Browse API for visual-similarity matching. Gemini returns a structured identification including name, materials, hallmark, gemstone description, era, condition, rarity, and an estimated valuation range. eBay returns up to 6 visually similar current listings. Results are saved to your local Vault on the device.
Are AI valuations professional appraisals?
No. Jewelify's valuations are AI-generated estimates intended for informational use — collection management, conversation starters, ballpark insurance figures, and personal record-keeping. They are not GIA-certified grading reports either. For decisions involving significant monetary value, sale, insurance claims, customs declarations, estate planning, or legal matters, always consult a qualified human gemologist, licensed appraiser, dealer, or auction-house specialist.
How accurate are the identifications?
Accuracy varies by piece type and photo quality. Branded pieces with clear hallmarks (Cartier, Tiffany, Rolex) and recognisable design signatures identify well. Highly specialised, regionally-specific, or condition-dependent valuations are less reliable. Photo quality matters — well-lit, single-piece photos with hallmarks and gemstones clearly visible produce the best results. The App displays a confidence percentage; treat anything below 60–70% as a starting point rather than a definitive answer.
Are diamond carat, clarity, and colour estimates accurate?
They are AI estimates, not certified grading. Reliable diamond grading requires direct examination by a certified gemologist under controlled lighting with calibrated instruments (loupes, refractometers, spectroscopes). Jewelify can give you a rough indication for personal interest, but for purchase, sale, or insurance decisions involving valuable stones, get a GIA, IGI, AGS, or similar certified report.
Are my photos stored on your servers?
No. Photos are processed in real time through our Cloudflare Workers proxy, Google Cloud (Gemini), and eBay (visual search), and never written to disk on the proxy. We do cache the AI's structured identification result for 7 days, and eBay's visual-match listings for 24 hours, both using SHA-256 hashes of your image's bytes — this keeps prices stable across repeat scans. The original photo is not extractable from either cache key.
Are my photos used to train AI models?
No. We use Google Vertex AI / Gemini under their enterprise API terms, which explicitly exclude submitted data from being used for model training. eBay processes the image only for the duration of the visual-search request and does not retain it. See our Privacy Policy, Section 4 for full details.
What are the "Recent Comparables" cards?
A carousel showing current eBay listings visually similar to your scanned piece. Provided live via eBay's Browse API. Each card shows the listing price, photo, and title; tap to view the full listing on eBay.
Can I use Jewelify offline?
Identification (Scan) requires internet because it runs through cloud AI and eBay visual search. Browsing your existing Vault, viewing past identifications, reading articles, and modifying preferences all work offline.
How do I cancel my Jewelify Premium subscription?
Open iPhone Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > Jewelify Premium > Cancel Subscription. You'll keep Premium access until the end of your current billing period. You can also tap "Manage Subscription" inside the Jewelify app's Settings screen.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Jewelify purchase, and request a refund. Apple decides on a case-by-case basis.
How does the free trial work?
New users can try Jewelify Premium free for 3 days on the Weekly plan. You won't be charged during the trial. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid the first charge. The trial is offered once per Apple ID per product.
How do I restore my Premium purchase on a new device?
Open Jewelify > Settings > Restore Purchases. Your subscription is linked to your Apple ID and will be restored automatically. This also works if you reinstall the App.
Why do prices appear in a different currency than I expected?
Jewelify auto-detects your currency from your iOS region setting on first launch. To override it, go to Settings → Preferences → Currency and pick from supported currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AED, …). Search by ISO code, currency name, or symbol. The App's prices and AI valuations switch immediately. Note: this is independent of your subscription billing currency, which is set by Apple based on your App Store account region.
Why does the same scan sometimes give different valuations?
It usually doesn't — we cache results for 7 days keyed by the image+currency+locale, so an identical scan returns the same result. Different valuations across scans of the same physical piece are usually due to different photo quality, angle, or lighting (the AI sees a slightly different scene). For consistency, photograph the piece the same way each time, ideally on a plain neutral background with even lighting.
How do I export or back up my Vault?
Settings → Data & Privacy → Export My Data. Jewelify generates a single JSON file containing every identification, badge, streak, and preference, with photos base64-encoded inline. You can save this to Files, share via Mail, or AirDrop to a Mac for archival.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete All Data. This wipes every scan, badge, streak, and preference from your device, and resets the AI Consent flag so you'll be prompted again before the next scan. Subscriptions are managed by Apple and are not affected — cancel separately via App Store Settings if needed.
Does Jewelify use my location?
No. We never request CLLocationManager permission and never read GPS metadata from your photos. The App stores nothing about where you took the photo.
My piece was identified incorrectly. What should I do?
AI is imperfect, especially for rare, custom, or estate pieces without recognisable hallmarks. Try retaking the photo from a different angle, with better lighting, or showing maker's marks / hallmarks / signatures more clearly. If you have additional context (provenance, paperwork, hallmark detail shots), share it with the Jeweler chat for a more refined view. For high-value pieces, always cross-check with a human expert.
Can I tell if my diamond is real with Jewelify?
Jewelify can offer general guidance based on visual characteristics (cut, brilliance, observed clarity), but it cannot definitively distinguish natural diamonds from lab-grown or simulants (cubic zirconia, moissanite, white sapphire) from a photo alone. Reliable distinction requires hands-on testing — thermal/electrical conductivity tester for moissanite, X-ray fluorescence for trace-element analysis, or laboratory certification. Always verify with a certified gemologist before significant transactions.
What about cultural-heritage or restricted items?
Jewelify is a software identification tool. Identifying a piece via the App does not authorise its trade. Many countries restrict the buying, selling, or export of conflict diamonds (Kimberley Process), pieces with CITES-listed materials (ivory, certain coral, tortoiseshell), cultural-patrimony items, Indigenous artefacts, and Nazi-era jewelry with looted provenance. Compliance is your responsibility — consult a specialist before any transaction. See our Terms of Service, Section 6 for details.
